When the port opened in 1883, Qing, Japanese and Western concessions arrived together, and buildings from that era crowd the hills of Jung-gu. The city takes in Yeongjong island, home of the international airport, and Ganghwa, so the sights are widely spread. It also suits a long layover.

In a field on Ganghwa island, two upright stones hold up a huge capstone in a table dolmen, World Heritage since 2000. It is among the larger table types in Korea and stands well above head height. Allow just over an hour each way by car from central Incheon.
